i want to print my own designed greeting cards. What printer should i use and how thick is the paper?

I usually print from the HP 2410 photosmart but then the result is not so good. The colour doesnt really come out. Thus, do i use the wrong printer? And for the paper, which type of paper would be best to use and what is average weigh?
